Worcester – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest (BBBS of CMMW) will present “The BIG Show,” an afternoon of laughs, music and dance performances at The Hanover Theatre Sunday, March 29.
“The BIG Show” is a fundraiser to celebrate 15 years of BBBS of CMMW’s Worcester Area College Mentor Program, which pairs college students with children in a one-to-one mentoring relationship which can last four, or more, years. The program, which was launched with members of the lacrosse team at the College of the Holy Cross, has impacted more than 6,000 lives and is believed to be the largest of its kind in the country.
Ben Bailey, comedian and host of the television show “Cash Cab,” will perform along with acts from local area colleges including The Clark Bars and The 13th Key (Clark University); Sons of Pitches, Rhythm Nation Steppaz, Fools on the Hill and Holy Cross Cheer Squad (College of the Holy Cross); African Percussion Ensemble and The Rockets Dance Team (Worcester Polytechnic Institute); Worcester State University Dance Team; and Becker College Dance Team. David’s Angels (Clark University) will perform at a VIP pre-show reception.
“Nearly 700 college students in the Greater Worcester area give their time to mentor a child facing adversity each week,” said Jeffrey Chin, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest. ““Having a responsible and caring adult role model in their lives has a profound impact on the at-risk children our program reaches. And while we measure the impact of the program on the children served, the college mentors almost always report that the experience has had a profoundly positive effect on them as well.”
“The BIG Show” will take place Sunday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. at The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts in Worcester. Full price tickets are $25 and $50 depending on seating location. Discounted tickets are available for $5 with college student ID. A limited number of VIP tickets, which include a pre-show reception with appetizers from some of Worcester’s finest restaurants, are available for $100 or $75 (for two or more).
