Marlborough holds Off Hopkinton, advances to finals

Worcester – The number 1 seed Marlborough High School Panthers boys basketball team defeated the number 5 seed Hopkinton High School Hillers by a score of 55-40 in a Central Mass. Division 2 semi-final playoff game held March 2. The game was played at Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s Harrington Auditorium.

The Panthers started strong, and went into halftime with a commanding 32-16 lead. The Hillers rallied in the second half, scoring 17 consecutive points and pulling to within 2 points with 6 and half minutes remaining in the game. However, that was as close as they were able to get. The Panthers found their groove again, and outscored the Hillers 18 to 5 in the remaining minutes to clinch the victory.

Brian Short was the top scorer for the Panthers with 18 points, Chris Doherty contributed 15 and Owen Cappadona scored 13. Matthew Locke was the top scorer for the Hillers with 11 points.

The Panthers move on to play Concord.
