Marlborough – Albina T. (Zarba) Mariano, 87, of Marlborough, died Monday, March, 9, 2015 after a brief illness. She died peacefully at the family homestead under the care of her family.

Born in Marlborough, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Carmela (Ferro) Zarba and the wife of the late Joseph L. Mariano, who died in 2001.

Trained as a phlebotomist and laboratory technician, she began her career at the former Cushing Hospital, Framingham and then at the VA Hospital in W. Roxbury, where she met her future husband. After marrying and raising her family, Mrs. Mariano returned to work at the Framingham Heart Study, retiring after 27 years.

Following high school, she moved to Pleasant Street, where her family owned a turkey farm and apple orchard. She loved to read, cook and garden, growing her own vegetables. She had been a member of the former St. Ann Parish, Marlborough.

She is survived by her children, Joseph Mariano and his wife Janice of Southborough and Judith Moynihan and her husband Dr. Michael Moynihan of Marlborough; her grandchildren, Daniel Moynihan, Katherine Moynihan, Olivia Mariano, and Joe Mariano; and her sisters, Josephine Laptewicz of Southborough, Gloria Clapp of Westborough, and Viola Wellen of Bradford. She was also the sister of the late Anthony Zarba and Lillian Jackson.

Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 13, from 4-7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Anne Church, 20 Boston Rd., Southborough. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery, Cordaville Road (Route 85), Southborough.
