Marlborough – The City Council Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee approved during the council’s March 9 meeting a request from Mayor Arthur Vigeant to purchase property at 11 New St.
The land is located adjacent to the new senior center and Ward Park will be used for additional parking and as a storage area for landscaping equipment for the senior center.
“We authorized the mayor to enter into negotiations with the company representing the owner, at a price not to exceed $35,000,”said Councilor Edward Clancy, chair of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee.
The property stands in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It has been assessed for $30,000. Department Public Works Commissioner John Ghiloni agreed with the mayor’s proposal to buy the land and noted it had great value.
Jennifer Claro, director of the Council on Aging, and her staff finished packing the contents of the senior center located at 240 Main St. prior to the move to the new center which occurred the weekend of March 7-8.
