Hudson – Jose L. Lopes, 78, of Hudson, died Friday, March 13, 2015 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus in Worcester, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 41 years to the late Maria C. (Figueiredo) Lopes, who died in 2010.

Jose was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal, son of the late Joaquim and Adelina (Nordelo) Lopes. He emigrated from Santa Maria to Hudson in 1969 and was employed as a machinist for many years with Data-Guide Wire Manufacturing Co. in Gardner until his retirement. He was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.

Jose enjoyed gardening and cultivating his grapes to make homemade wine to share with family and friends. In his spare time, he enjoyed going fishing. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family, especially with his five loving grandchildren.

He is survived by his three children, David A. Lopes and his wife Chantelle, Eddie F. Lopes, and Lisa F. Lopes, all of Hudson. He is also survived by his two brothers, Manuel and Tiago Lopes, both of Portugal, and his five grandchildren, Corey Byrne, Shane Boivin, Hailey Boivin, Benjamin Lopes, and Zachary Lopes, all of Hudson. along with his many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Antonio and Joao Lopes.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, March 16 in Saint Michael’s Church of Hudson, followed by burial in Saint Michael’s Cemetery of Hudson.
