Obit-Flag_USE-THIS-ONE4Naples, Maine – Richard E. “Dick” Rixford, 76, of Naples, Maine, formerly of Hudson and Marlborough, died Sunday, March 15, 2015 after a brief illness.

He was the devoted and beloved husband of 54 years to Carol (Ethier) Rixford of Naples, Maine. He was the treasured father of Scott E. Rixford of Wayne Township, N.J. and Jodi E. Rixford of South Paris, Maine; beloved brother of Sylvia (Rixford) Almada of Hudson; and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Elwin and Julia (Dufault) Rixford of Hudson.

Richard was a proud member of the National Guard until being honorably discharged, and a life member of the Hudson Lodge of Elks.

Having lived his life in the truest definition of being a family man, Richard enjoyed everything about the outdoors. He always reflected with great pride on all of his childhood years among friends in Hudson, before marrying and moving to Marlborough to raise his family. An engineer by trade, and gifted with an incredibly analytical mind, he enjoyed all manner of machines and tools. One of his greatest sources of pride was in self-building every inch of his sprawling lakeside property in Maine’s Lakes Region, which he retired to in 2002 after a long and gratifying career with the Millipore Corporation of Bedford.

Family and friends may attend calling hours Wednesday, March 18, from 5-7 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson, followed by a service and celebration of Richard’s life at 7 p.m. Burial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family in Maine where Richard wanted to be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Bright Focus Foundation/Macular Degeneration Research, 22512Gateway Center Dr., Clarksburg, MD 20871 or www.brightfocus.org/macular.
