Marlborough – Mayor Arthur G. Vigeant and the Marlborough Board of Health recently announced the appointment of Cathleen Liberty as the city’s new department head in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Health Department/Board of Health. Pending final approval by the City Council, Liberty’s title will be director of public health.

Liberty comes to Marlborough after serving as the health agent for the town of Webster since September 2010. Prior to that she was a sanitarian in Watertown.

“The Health Department plays a critical role in protecting and educating our residents and local businesses. Our community is fortunate to have a hardworking public health professional like Cathleen leading our Health Department,” Vigeant said.

Marlborough Board of Health Chair James Griffin participated in Liberty’s final interviews and came away impressed with her enthusiasm and passion for public health.

“Cathleen is a strong believer in proactive outreach and education which is critical to public health. Marlborough is a city on the move and she made it clear in her interview she wants to be part of that and do great things for our city,” he said. “We look forward to working with her.”

Liberty received her Bachelor of Science from Worcester State University and recently received her Master of Public Health from UMASS Amherst.
