Northborough – The second Annual Miles for Matt 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, May 9 at the Fannie E. Proctor Elementary School, 26 Jefferson Rd., in honor of the late Matt Bruce of Northborough.

Bruce was only 26 when he passed in March 2014 after he lost his courageous battle to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). All proceeds from the May 9 event will benefit Compassionate Care ALS (CCALS), a nonprofit organization that offered support to Bruce and his family during his terminal illness.

“Matt never once complained after receiving the most horrific diagnosis anyone could ever face. Instead he lived his life to the fullest and taught all of us to never give up,” said his friend Jen Gauvin.

“Matt was and always will be an inspiration to anyone he ever met. As a community we would like to keep his memory alive and run for those who are unable to run and provide comfort and dignity to those who are living with ALS today, which is exactly what the proceeds from this benefit will do,” she added.

The cost to participate is $40. To pre-register visit http://www.miles-for-matt-benefit-5k-run–walk.sportssignup.com/site or through Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/702077526536749/. Participants may also register the day of the event starting at 8 a.m. The race will start at 9:30. A cookout will follow the event at the school.
