Obit Peter FerrantoShrewsbury – Peter E. Ferranto, 79, of Shrewsbury, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 4, 2015 at home. His wife of 46 years, Marie (Tortora) Ferranto, died in 2007.

Peter is survived by his loving children; a daughter, Grace Schofield and her husband Brian of Chicopee, and two sons, Larry Ferranto and his wife Lucia and Edward Ferranto and his wife Deborah, all of Worcester. Peter also leaves his loving grandchildren, Peter Alden, Peter Anthony, Tyler, Kristina, Grace, and Julia. He leaves his brother, Raymond Ferranto and his wife Betty of West Boylston; two sisters, Rose DiRado of Marlborough and Grace Lonzo of Fitchburg; and many nephews and nieces.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late Lawrence and Grace (DiBenedetto) Ferranto, and lived in Worcester many years before moving to Shrewsbury over 10 years ago. He served his country in the United States Air Force in the African Theatre during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he became an operating engineer with the Caprera Construction Company and also the Local Union #4 for many years before he retired.

Peter was a longtime member of the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann, and was also a member of the Greendale Retired Men’s Club and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #4. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Worcester Assembly.

Peter enjoyed bowling, and the challenge of restoring older MG cars, which he was very experienced with. But, most of all, he loved being with his family, whether it be on many family vacations or hosting Christmas Eve with Marie. His door was always open to welcome people with a smile. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Peter’s funeral will be held Thursday, April 9 from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann, 24 Mulberry St. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday, April 8, from 4-7 p.m., in the funeral home. Interment with his wife will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
