As the 1970s began, Southborough, like the other “boroughs,” was undergoing significant changes as it moved from primarily a rural community with many remaining farms to sought-after suburban communities with homes businesses, and buildings serving the “high tech” world.

Journalist, author and historian Donna McDaniel will share her observations on this fascinating, difficult and remarkable decade in an illustrated presentation. McDaniel moved to Southborough at the beginning of the ‘70s and began reporting on town events for the former “Middlesex News.” She has followed the changes in the town and the many dedicated townspeople who had the foresight to prepare for the future with careful zoning, updated water systems, and especially by building and re-organizing schools.

McDaniel’s research for the program is supported by the Southborough Cultural Arts Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), a state agency. The program will be taped for broadcast on SAM (Southborough Access Media).
