Obit Pierrette GuayWestborough – Pierrette Marie Rene Guay (nee Viau), of Westborough, formerly of Ottawa, Canada died Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

She was born May 22, 1932 in Ottawa to the late Dr. Horace and Beatrice Viau. She married the late Dr. Walter Guay in 1954, and from 1960 to 1962 attended the graduate School of Social Work at Saint Patrick’s College (now part of the University of Ottawa). In 1962, she and her family moved to Franklin, N.H. In 1975, the couple divorced and Pierrette returned to Ottawa, resuming a career she loved as a pediatric social worker at the Ottawa Children’s Aid Society, retiring in 1994. In 2005, she came to Massachusetts to be nearer to family.

Pierrette valued family above all else, and spending time with her children and grandchildren was a priority. She had a vibrant and active social life – traveling, skiing, and enjoying tennis and bridge with a close set of friends she maintained throughout her entire life.

Pierrette was predeceased by her infant daughter, Julie Anne, and is survived by her sister Jacqueline Fitzgibbons of Toronto, Canada; her children, Suzanne Szermer of Warren, Vt. and Patrick Guay of Northborough; and her eight grandchildren, who loved her and miss her grace, smile and bright outlook on life.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Church in Northborough. Family and friends are also planning a celebration of her beautiful life in Ottawa, Canada this summer.
