Westborough – Jewell Valentine Bunnell Harley, 100, of Westborough, and formerly of Madison, Wis. and Westfield, N.J., died peacefully Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Beaumont Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough. Jewell was the wife of the late William G. Harley.

She was born in Eugene, Ore. to the late Lily Mae (Scott) and Edwin Myers Valentine. After her mother’s untimely death, Jewell was adopted by her second cousin, Leila (Valentine) Bunnell and her husband Walter of Westfield, N.J. She later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison where she met her husband, Bill. In 1940 they married and moved to Maple Bluff on Lake Mendota where they raised their family.

Jewell was a beautiful, creative woman and a loving, devoted mother to her children. She was always supportive of her husband’s career in educational broadcasting which allowed them to travel to many foreign countries.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Foster Hohenberger and husband Bill of Southborough and Linda Cunningham and husband Michael of Madison, Wis.; her grandchildren, Derek Foster, Kevin Foster and Gail Stakhanov and Allan Settle, John Settle, and Kinnavey Cunningham; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two daughters, Gail and Gratia Harley, and her siblings, George Valentine Cusick, Scott Valentine, Ernestine Bunnell Friend, and Theodore (Bud) Bunnell.

Funeral services will be private and her burial will be later in Madison, Wis. Arrangements are under the care of Morris Funeral Home of Southborough.
