Obit Evelyn BreedShrewsbury – A long life…..and well lived. Evelyn F. Breed died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester with her family by her side. She was 98. Evelyn rejoins her husband of 67 years, Frederick L. Breed, who died April 13, 2012. She will be sadly missed by her family.

Born Feb. 25, 1917 in Lynn, Evelyn F. Pike was the daughter of the late Hatch Carr Pike and Viola Elvira (Chamberlain) Pike. A graduate of Lynn English High School, she also graduated from Burdett College of Lynn. She worked as a private secretary at Salem Hospital for many years. Post World War II, when Fred returned from the service they married Sept. 30, 1945 in Swampscott. They moved to Shrewsbury in 1952 where Fred eventually established his company, Worcester Radio Distributors, currently WoRad Inc., a radio communications company located in Worcester, now run by their son, Stephen.

She was a long ime member of the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury and Evelyn was a member of its Women’s Fellowship. She was also active in the Prime Timers, Shrewsbury Woman’s Club, and the Eastern Star, Stella Chapter No. 3.

In addition to her husband, Fred, she was predeceased by her brothers, Leslie M. Pike and Wilson H. Pike.

She leaves her children, Stephen A. Breed and his wife Darlene of Holden and Janice E. Karelius and her husband the Rev. Canon Bradford Karelius of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; her grandsons, Erik Karelius of Laguna Nigel, Michael J. Breed and Marisa Licopoli of Oxford, and Jonathan F. Breed and his wife Corinne of Ashland; her granddaughter, Kathryn M. Karelius of Laguna Nigel; and her great-grandchildren, Julia M. and Jaxson G. Breed. She is also survived by her nieces, Connie Breed, Rosemary Moore, Audrey Breed, and Marilyn Judy Pike, and her nephew, Randall L. Pike.

Family and friends will honor and remember Evelyn’s life by gathering Saturday, June 13 at Pine Grove Cemetery, 145 Boston St., Lynn, where her graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Officiating will be her son-in-law, the Rev. Canon Bradford Karelius. There are no calling hours.

Memorials in her name may be made to the First Congregational Church, 19 Church Rd., Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
