Hudson – Shirley J. Leland, 78, of Hudson, died Friday, May 22, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. She recently celebrated 59 years of marriage to George E. Leland Jr.

Shirley was born in Penzance, Cornwall, England to John and Eva (Abrahamson) Harrower. She grew up in Penzance, attending St. Gertrude’s Convent School. She trained as a hair stylist in Penzance.

Shirley came to the United States in 1956 to marry George and worked at JFK Middle School as cafeteria manager for more than 16 years.

She attended St. Joseph the Good Provider Church in Berlin, and was a member of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association and the Hudson Senior Center. She was an avid bingo player and thoroughly enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking.

Shirley is survived by her husband, George E. Leland Jr.; two daughters, Theresa Nogler of Hudson and her husband George and Donna McGinnis of Half Moon Bay, Calif. and her husband Brian; and five granddaughters, Jennifer Follett of Marietta, Ga. and her husband Alex, Stephanie Nogler of Hudson and her companion Christopher Young, Brittany McGinnis of Ponte Vedra, Fla., Deidre McGinnis of Richmond, Calif., and Kelly McGinnis of Half Moon Bay, Calif. She also leaves two great-grandchildren, Julian and Lennox Follett, and her beloved dog, Bonnie. She is also survived by her brother, John Collins, and sister, Wendy Maslen, along with many nieces and nephews in England and Ireland. She was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Hawkins and Gloria Rowe.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 27, at 11 a.m., in Saint Joseph’s the Good Provider Church, 52 West St. (Route 62), Berlin. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery of Hudson. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 26, from 5-8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
