What are your earliest lacrosse-related memories?
“The first time I picked up a lacrosse stick was in eighth grade. I wanted to try a new spring sport so I gave lacrosse a shot. The sport itself was very fun, and I knew I wanted to continue it throughout high school.”
Who inspired you to stick with lacrosse, and succeed at it?
“My older brother Chad Carter, who played for the Marlborough boys’ lacrosse team, is my biggest inspiration. He received a Division II athletic scholarship at Southern New Hampshire University, where he played midfield for the Penmen. Chad taught me the fundamental skills and tricks to become a successful lacrosse player. His devotion for the sport has encouraged me to become a better athlete. I have four other brothers and a sister that are incredibly athletic as well. My sister played volleyball. My older brother Josh was a quarterback at Marlborough High School, as well as Springfield College, where he became an All-American. My brother Anthony played linebacker for Marlborough, and then played for Bentley University. Gabe Carter also played quarterback for Marlborough High, and my youngest brother plays both lacrosse and football. All of my brothers have inspired me to become a better athlete, and to compete at higher levels.”
What was it like making varsity back when you were only a freshman?
“Making the varsity team my freshman year was very exciting, but sustaining a losing streak and only winning four games altogether my freshman and sophomore years was very frustrating. At the end of my sophomore year, I was elected captain. We ended up being 12-5-2 that season, qualifying us for districts. The girls’ lacrosse team hadn’t qualified for districts since 2008, so that was exhilarating.”
What was the single most-special game during your time at Marlborough High?
“The most special game that I ever played was the first playoff game my junior year. I was just so honored to be part of that team. Even though losing in the first round was heartbreaking, working our way there was a much more valuable accomplishment.”
What do you consider to be the best part of your individual game?
“The best part of my game is my communication. Communicating on defense is very important. Teamwork is a key factor in lacrosse, and it certainly makes a lacrosse team successful.”
What has it been like playing for Coach Kelleher?
“She has inspired me to become a better lacrosse player, and student on and off the field. Without her positive attitude and great leadership, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. My coach has always seen potential in me starting my freshman year. Earning that captainship has enabled me to inspire others, and I learned so much from the best coach ever.”
What are your hobbies outside of lacrosse?
“One of my hobbies outside of school is working as a receptionist at New England Sports Center in Marlborough. I also participated in the school’s Varsity Club, selling food and drinks at the boys’ and girls’ basketball games to help raise money for the Marlborough Athletic Department. I am also a member of the National Arts Honor Society for Marlborough.”
What is your favorite class in school?
“My favorite class in school is marketing. I love that course because it boosts students’ strategic thinking about the evolving competitive world, and helps prepare students to communicate effectively in the future.”
What is your favorite type of music, and artist in that genre?
“I like country and R&B. My favorite artist is Luke Bryan.”
Where will you be attending college next year, and will you be playing lacrosse at that level?
“I was offered a Division I scholarship at Presbyterian College. I signed the letter of intent in November. I am very excited to compete at the Division I level because I love a challenge.”
