Obit Brian T. HaysNorthborough – Brian T. Hays, 60, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He leaves his wife of 34 years, Martha (Seilius) Hays; siblings, Barbara Ann Amons of Sandwich, Bonnie Louvier and her husband Philip of Lexington, Va., Brad Hays and his wife Laura of Blackstone, and Barri-Lynne Hays of Marlborough; two aunts; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Born in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Carl W. Hays (2014) and Evelyn (Taber) Hays (1981), and was a lifelong resident of Northborough. He graduated from Algonquin Regional High School, class of 1972, and attended Oregon State University, majoring in forestry engineering.

Recognized as a world-class gun dog trainer of the pointing breeds, Brian owned and operated Chokebore Kennels for over 30 years. His hard work, skills, and passion were rewarded when his mentor, Robert G. Wehle, bestowed him with custodianship of the world famous Elhew pointer bloodline in 2002. Before his passing, Brian partnered with a successor to carry on the Elhew legacy so that future sportsmen may enjoy “a gentleman’s shooting dog.”

Brian was a life sponsor of the Ruffed Grouse Society, William Harnden Foster chapter of Worcester. He was an avid outdoorsman who also enjoyed cooking and travel, taking many trips to England, Ireland, Scotland, and Canada. He will be remembered as a true country gentleman.
