Hudson – Carl Y. Saari Jr., 82, a longtime resident of Hudson, died unexpectedly at Marlborough Hospital Friday, June 19, 2015. He was predeceased by his former wife and mother of his children, Patricia G. (Garceau) Saari.

Carl was born in Worcester, son of the late Carl and Agnes (Flemming) Saari. He moved to Hudson at the age of 15 and was a graduate of Hudson High School. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy until being honorably discharged.

He was employed in the construction industry and later as a truck driver, working for several local companies over the years. He was a proud member of the Hudson AMVETs and Hudson V.F.W.

Carl was well known around the town of Hudson and could often be seen enjoying a bright sunny day strolling with his beloved dog, Dexter. He had many interests in his life, including watching games as an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Most of all, he cherished his family and being with them whenever possible, especially later catering to his loving grandchildren and adoring great grandchildren. He will surely be missed by all.

He is survived by his children, John Saari of Anchorage, Alaska, Karen Saari of Hudson, Paul Saari of Hudson, and Deborah Saari of Hudson. He was predeceased by his son, William Saari, in 1974. He is also survived by his brother, Donald Saari of Virginia; his nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Francis Saari, Betty Grant, and Nancy Devoll.

A funeral service and celebration of Carl’s life will be held Wednesday, June 24, at 9 p.m., in the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. Burial services will be held privately at a later date in Saint Michael’s Cemetery of Hudson. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, June 24, from 7-9 p.m., at the funeral home prior to the service.
