Northborough – The town is actively searching for both a permanent fire chief and for an interim chief to serve while the search process unfolds.
The Board of Selectmen voted June 22 to name Fire Capt. James Houston as officer in charge of the department should there be a gap between the retirement of Chief David Durgin on June 30 and the naming of an interim chief. Houston has served in the role several times in the past.
Search consulting firm Resource Management Associates was awarded a contract to help the town identify candidates and has begun to work on both searches, recently meeting with members of the Board of Selectmen and the Fire Department staff, according to Town Administrator John Coderre.
Selectmen Chair Jeff Amberson and member Dawn Rand will work with Coderre on the search for an interim chief.
In other business the board approved a one-day liquor license for the owners of the Armsby Abbey Restaurant in Worcester to hold a seventh anniversary celebration on the Tougas Farms property at 234 Ball St., Sunday, Aug. 9. Co-owner Sheri Sadowski said the annual dinner is meant to celebrate the area’s food and wine producers the restaurant uses to source its local goods.
