Shrewsbury police report two fatalities in July 4 MVA

Police-1Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Police Department is reporting the tragic news of two fatalities that occurred during an MVA this past Saturday:

On Saturday, July 4th, 2015 at 6:24 PM the Shrewsbury Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at 882 Boston Turnpike (Route 9) in the area of the Shrewsbury Commons. Also responding to the scene was the Shrewsbury Fire Department along with U-Mass EMS. Preliminary investigation shows a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling Eastbound on Route 9 with its operator and passenger when it collided with the rear of a 2010 Toyota Corolla which was also traveling East on Route 9. The motorcycle tumbled, then slid and exited the roadway. The female passenger of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and the operator of the motorcycle was transported to the U-Mass Medical Center where he did not survive. The operator and sole occupant of the Toyota Corolla was uninjured.

The Shrewsbury Police shut down Route 9 for several hours during its investigation. Accident Reconstructionists Sgt. Michael O’Connor of the Shrewsbury Police Department and Officer Cliff Luce of the Westborough Police Department are investigating along with The Office of Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. Officer Matthew Caola of the Shrewsbury Police assisted. The accident remains under investigation.
