Maria Sauri, 88, of Marlborough

Marlborough – On July 2 our family suffered an enormous loss, Maria Cristina Sauri (Barbosa Mena), 88, suddenly passed away. “Mommy and Grandma” were her favorite titles.

She was preceded in death (2005) by her husband Francisco. She was born in Oxkutzcab, Yucatan, Mexico, the daughter of Benjamin and Valentina Mena Barbosa. She lived in Marlborough for over 50 years where she chatted and shared smiles with all her friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Sauri is survived by her four children, sons Frank and his wife Trudy of Maryland and Armando of North Carolina, and daughters Christine Hughart and her husband Trenton and Patricia Dion and her husband Stephen, all of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters and extended family that she was fortunate enough to have recently spent time with in Mexico.

Mrs. Sauri worked many years at Frye Boots. She traveled the world and enjoyed visiting her family around the country. She also enjoyed puttering around her home and gardening was her greatest joy. She didn’t miss a chance to spend time with her children and grandchildren, always ready for a birthday, holiday, or special event. Even countless visits to the local penny-candy store was important if it involved being with family.

The angels above have certainly gained a wonderful, amazing, incredibly special, and loving woman. We know her smiles and love will be with us, her family, for all time.

We will celebrate her life with a service to be held Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m., at Saint Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Funeral arrangements will be organized under the direction of the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home. Directly following the Mass, there will be a short reception with coffee and doughnuts at the church.
