WestboroughMark’s Moving & Storage, which has been serving the moving needs of eastern Massachusetts for 35 years, will be expanding its presence in Florida with an office opening in that state by the end of the year.
“We have always delivered household goods from the Northeast to Florida and have a very large network of customers in south Florida,” said Mark Silverman, president and chief executive officer of the company he started in 1979 with a used truck purchased on his credit card while he was a student at Northeastern University.
“Establishing a physical location in Florida will provide quicker and more economical service between the two points and allow us to increase our presence in Florida.” The office will be in the Boca Raton/Delray area.
The new office will help to support one of Mark’s specialties, assisting seniors who are relocating, whether it is a move to Florida or into a condominium in their hometown.
“Often seniors will be downsizing from a larger home. We will help them move, but are a resource as well as a mover,” Silverman said. “We can help our customers find ways to donate or dispose of items they no longer want or need.”
One way Mark’s does that is through a charitable foundation it recently created, Mark’s Northeastern Furniture Foundation, to collect new and used furniture and household items from Mark’s current customers and local merchants and manufacturers, and deliver those goods to organizations such as the United Way and veterans’ shelters for distribution to families in need.
Mark’s Moving offers a wide range of moving and storage services, including local and long-distance residential and corporate moving, air freight, container shipping, record storage management, disposal, packing and unpacking services, portable storage containers, warehousing and fire and flood remediation.
The company’s volume of long-distance moves continues to grow as the Florida expansion attests. Mark’s can arrange moves throughout the country and the world.
“We are a resource, not a commodity,” Silverman said. “We’re focused on helping people solve problems. Often people store things because of a move to an assisted living facility, or as a result of a fire, flood or divorce. We want to help by moving and storing their belongings safely, securely and with great care.”
One specialty is a content rescue service for homeowners who have been hit by a fire, flood or water damage.
“We rescue all the salvageable contents of the home, bring those items to our facility here and provide remediation services, including ultrasonic cleaning. We will completely manage the remediation effort, including storing the contents until the house is repaired,” he said.
Mark’s Moving & Storage has been in its 90,000-sq.ft. warehouse in Westborough for almost 10 years and also has a 60,000-sq.ft. warehouse in Norwood. The company has a fleet of over 30 trucks and trailers.
