Marlborough – Melvin E. Parmenter, 90, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 after a long period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Shirley (Burnap) Parmenter, who died in 2011. They were married for 65 years.

He was born in Hudson, the son of the late Clarence and Ethel Parmenter, and lived in Marlborough for 56 years. Born on Feb. 14, he was so proud to be America’s sweetheart.

Melvin worked as a carpenter for the former Roy Estabrook and Son Construction in Marlborough for many years. After retirement, he along with his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Sally A. Steel of Shrewsbury and Audrey Auld and her husband Tom of Florida; one son, Bill Parmenter and his wife Diane of Marlborough; nine grandchildren,; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, three sisters and a grandson, Bobby Steel.

His funeral was held July 13 in the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home of Marlborough, followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
