Obit Celeste Monteiro SousaMarlborough – Celeste Monteiro Sousa, 96, of Marlborough, formerly of Hudson, passed away peacefully Monday, July 27, 2015 at Beaumont Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough after a period of declining health. She was the loving wife of 65 years to the late Manuel H. Sousa at the time of his passing in May 2007.

Celeste was born and raised in Hudson, daughter of John C. and Juliana (Almeida) Monteiro. She attended local schools and was a 1937 graduate of Hudson High School. She was a longtime receptionist for Dr. Curtis in Hudson.

Celeste was a member of the Hudson Women’s Club, member of the Catholic Daughters, a member of the former Hudson Hospital Auxiliary, a Red Cross volunteer, and a longtime Girl Scout leader in Hudson. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson and also a former CCD instructor within the Parish.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Fondas and her husband Lee of Marlborough, and was predeceased by her son, Paul E. Sousa, in 1988. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Andrew (Tammy) Fondas of Georgia, Kevin (Pamela) Fondas of Hudson, and Matthew (Mary) Fondas of East Boston; her adoring great-grandchildren, Colby, Bryson, Emma, Ethan, and Theo; and her sisters-in-law, Maryzell Souza and Maryann Mutti, both of Florida, along with many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Aug. 1, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held Friday, July 31, from 5-7 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson.
