Shrewsbury – A milestone year for a popular Shrewsbury attraction was celebrated with live music, ice cream and perfect summertime weather. Also, the price was right – free.
The Friends of the Shrewsbury Library and the Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation Department presented Dan Gabel’s High Society Orchestra in an outdoor concert Aug. 6 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Dean Park. Ten instrumentalists and vocalist Elise Roth performed a repertoire of classic jazz tunes from the “Roaring ‘20s.” Free ice cream treats were provided by Heald & Chiampa Funeral Home.
The 75 acres now known as Dean Park was donated to the town by Charles A. Dean in memory of his parents James and Keziah Stearns Dean. The park officially opened October 27, 1915.
