Hudson Cultural Council seeks funding proposals

Hudson – The Hudson Cultural Council is accepting grant proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities and science programs. The council has set a Thursday, Oct. 15, postmark deadline for organizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community.

According to council spokesperson Barbara Worrest, these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Hudson – including exhibits, festivals, field trips, workshops, short-term artist residencies, programs and performances in schools and libraries.

The Hudson Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the commonwealth. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community. MCC’s FY16 spending plan benefits from a $2 million increase to its state appropriation, overwhelmingly approved by the legislature last month.

“This boost in funding will help the Hudson Cultural Council be an even stronger supporter of the arts,” said Senator James B. Eldridge (D-Acton). “I was proud to advocate for an increase in Massachusetts Cultural Council funding in the FY16 budget as it will continue to provide towns like Hudson resources to develop the arts and cultural institutions enjoyed by so many residents.”

This year, the Hudson Cultural Council will distribute $9,900 in grants, including $6,400 allocated by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and an additional $3,500 provided by the town of Hudson.
