Obit Barbara Nichols 2Northborough – Barbara J. Nichols passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 at Marlborough Hospital. She was 90.

Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Harold C. and Betha M. (Farrell) Nichols. She lived in Northborough for 40 plus years.

She leaves four nephews and a niece.

Miss Nichols graduated from Westborough High School in 1943, prior to receiving her teacher’s degree from Worcester State Teacher’s College in 1947. She taught several generations of second, third, and fourth graders at the Zeh, Peaslee and Lincoln Street schools. Upon her retirement in 1986, she accumulated 39 years of service to the Northborough Public School System.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Church, a member of the Westborough Grange, as well as Northborough Historical Society.

Shortly after retirement from the classroom, Miss Nichols began volunteering with the Heifer Project International at Overlook Farm in Rutland; a testimony to her continual desire to give of herself to others. For nearly two decades, she volunteered her services with the Heifer Project. During this time, she travelled to and assisted on many projects spanning over 13 countries, as well as numerous here in America.

A memorial service will held Thursday, Sept. 17, at 10 a.m., in the Trinity Church, 23 Main St., Northborough. Hays Funeral Home of Northborough is assisting with arrangements.
