Hudson – Maria Odilia Chaves, 90, of Hudson, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of Antonio P. Chaves, who died in 1974.

Maria was born and raised in the Azores of Portugal, residing on the Island of Santa Maria. She immigrated to Hudson along with seven of her children and had resided in Hudson the past 47 years. She took great pride in raising her family and providing them with a rewarding life in Hudson.

She was a longtime employee of the former Thomas Taylor and Son’s Company in Hudson and member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson.

Maria enjoyed knitting and crocheting in her spare time. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and will truly be missed by all.

She is survived by her eight children, Jose P. Chaves of Hudson, Maria P. Chaves and her husband Jose of Northborough, Antonio P. Chaves and his wife Maria of Hudson, Manuel P. Chaves and his wife Eva of Hudson, David P. Chaves and his wife Patty of Gardner, Lidia P. Chaves of Hudson, Arsenio P. Chaves and his wife Rosa of Hudson, and Zelia P. Braga of Hudson. She also leaves her 21 loving grandchildren and 24 adoring great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery of Hudson. Calling hours will be held Friday, Sept. 18, from 5-8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
