Hudson – Eugenia L. (Loura) Chaves, 83, of Hudson, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2015 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus in Worcester. She was the loving wife of 61 years to the late Joao Chaves, who died in 2013.

Eugenia was born and raised in Santa Maria, the Azores of Portugal. She immigrated to Hudson from Santa Maria in 1967 and had resided in Hudson since then.

She was employed as a technician for many years with Data General of Westborough and Southborough until her retirement. She was a member of Saint Michael’s Parish in Hudson and member of the Hudson Senior Center.

Eugenia enjoyed painting and ceramics in her spare time and always looked forward to spending her free time at the Hudson Senior Center. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family. Her passion in life was being surrounded by her five loving grandchildren. She will truly be missed.

She is survived by her three children, Aida M. Chaves and her husband Manuel of Hudson, Anna M. Hoover and her husband Earl of Hopkinsville, Ky., and John M. Chaves and his wife Estrela of Hudson. She is also survived by her sister, Helena Chaves and her husband Herculano of Portsmouth, R.I., and her five loving grandchildren, Amanda Chaves, Paulo and Jeremy Stochaj, and Bethany and Jeffrey Chaves, along with many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Filomena Machado and Maria Luz.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 1, at 9 a.m., in Saint Michael’s Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson. Burial will follow in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Hudson. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 5-8 p.m., at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson.
