Westborough – The town of Westborough recently announced its first Citizen Leadership Academy, aimed at developing future leaders in the community by providing a basic overview of all town functions over a 10-week period. Programs will be one day per week starting Wednesday, Nov. 4, and continuing through all of the various town departments (with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks). The meetings will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The agenda includes a general overview of town government, the selectmen’s role, public safety (police and fire), public works, cultural services (library and recreation), planning, zoning and conservation, finance, social services (Council on Aging and Youth and Family Services), Town Clerk, MIS/GIS and health and the zoning board of appeals.

The purpose is to give residents that have not been involved in town government previously, but are interested in becoming engaged and serving in a voluntary capacity, the opportunity to gain an insight into the various services provided by the town and where their particular skills may best be suited.

The program will be limited to 20 participants on a first-come basis, again with the goal to engage residents that have not previously been involved in town government in any capacity. The Citizen Leadership Academy is also an opportunity for citizens to exchanges ideas, suggestions and concerns with town management and staff.
