Police say alleged drunk tractor trailer driver responsible for accident on Main Street

December 11th, 2014

S Main St accident

Southborough – The Southborough Police Department released this statement this morning regarding an accident on Main Street:

Last night, at approx. 10:39 PM, Southborough Police and Southborough Fire responded to an accident scene in front of 5 Main Street (The Southborough House of Pizza). A tractor trailer unit was traveling eastbound on Main Street, when it suddenly swerved across the center lane; striking a curb and then a tree in front of the business. The truck’s gas tank was punctured during the accident, causing a large fuel leak in the area. Large tree limbs landed on top of power lines, which created very hazardous conditions for the First Responders. Nearby residents and customers were evacuated, and Main Street was shut down for approximately four hours during the course of the accident investigation .National Grid was contacted and turned off power to the area, and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was contacted to clean up the fuel spill. The Massachusetts State Police Truck Team was also contacted, and began their investigation of the accident as well.
